Iron Sharpens Iron

Hi guys, my name is Jim Povich and I am the pastor at Faith Alliance Church in Saltsburg, PA. “Iron Sharpens Iron” is a men’s group that meets at my house every Thursday from 7 – 9 pm. The address is 160 Main Street, Salina PA.

Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another” (NIV84). A dull knife isn’t good for much. It can't do what it was designed to do. A godly man is like a sharp knife. He does what God designed men to do: to love God with all his heart; to teach his children to love the Lord like he does; to love his wife like Christ loves His church; to provide a model of Christ-likeness for anyone who happens to be watching.

The problem is that no matter how sharp a knife is, it gets dull with use. That’s why we meet together. None of us are as sharp as we want to be. In order to sharpen a knife, it has to be honed on a material at least as hard as itself. For that reason, other godly men are the steel upon which a godly man is honed.

When we meet together, it’s super informal. There’s food… we talk… we pray… we dig into God’s Word. We believe that honesty and transparency are important, but you don’t have to talk about anything you don’t want to. We won’t press you.

We believe that impossible things become possible when men of God come together and pray but you don’t have to be able to pray out loud. So don’t worry about that. We won’t make you.

We believe it is essential to know and obey God’s Word to have any true success in life, but you don’t have to know much, or anything at all, about the Bible to be part of the discussion. So don’t be intimidated. I don’t have all the answers. None of us do. We discover them together.

If you feel like you’re not as sharp as you’d like to be, come on out. That’s the reason why we’re here.
